At first glance, CartoonNetwork.com looks like child's play. The website for the all-cartoon television network is heavy on graphics, light on text, and filled with colorful blocks promoting shows like Tom and Jerry and Scooby Doo. The site is fun to click around on. But at the bottom of the flagship U.S. homepage is a small link that tells a bigger story: "International sites."

Bart Eisenberg's articles on the trends and technologies of the American computer industry have appeared in Gijutsu-Hyoron publications since the late 1980s. He has covered and consulted for both startups and the major corporations that make up the Silicon Valley. A native of Los Angeles and a self-confessed gadget freak, he lives with his wife Susan in Marin County, north of San Francisco.
